Drake "Dreams Money Can't Buy" song review

A couple of years ago when Toronto rapper and former actor Drake burst on the scene I was very skeptical. I believed that it was unjust hype; people anointed him as the next great thing based on one EP. The debut album “Thank Me Later” was released and by then the anticipation had reached a fever pitch that turned me off. Every urban radio station on the planet was playing his songs at a ridiculous pace; I just couldn’t avoid the guy. Time elapsed, gave me some perspective and I have to admit that Drake was better than my initial judgment. The guy definitely has skill as a rapper and has an ear for good production.
Now that he has a new album coming, hype is building up again, so I better prepare myself from the Drake fanatics. “Dreams Money Can Buy” is the new song from Drake. I am not sure if the song will be included on the final tracklist. The single begins with a sampled voice singing some “whooos” and it is layed on top with another sample saying “Don’t F*ck with me” repeatedly. That sample begins to get annoying and it would have benefited the track had it been left off. I do however like the drum and the way the snares pitch is shifted from time to time. At certain points the snare drum are processed to sound as if they are underwater. Drake does have some good verses with some clever wordplay. His flow is adequate and it is evident that he takes his time writing down his verses and that is a good thing.

7/10

Song of the day will be the single "Dreams Money Can't Buy"
