As crazy as it seems, we are half way through the year already. Time seems to be going faster and faster each day. A lot of great music has been released this year. Some which I haven’t gotten around to listen to. This first half of the year gave us releases from rookies as well as established veterans. So I will list my top 5 albums of the year so far. The list is in no particular order; I find it impossible to compare great work from different genres and styles. I thoroughly enjoyed these albums and it remains to be seen if they will make my top 10 list at the end of the year.
5. Belle and Sebastian-Write about Love: The groups eight LP is one of their most concise and catchiest release. The LP has gorgeous production and that great melancholy sound that the group has perfected over the years.
4. James Blake-James Blake: The Dub-Step wonder kid released his debut album after a slew of EPs last year. The album has a surprising soulful sound to it that makes sound like a R&B album instead of electronic.
3. P.J. Harvey- Let England Shake: The alternative music veteran Polly Jean Harvey released this great album which examines the human condition in times of war. The lyrics are bleak but the music sounds great backed by very good production.
2. T.V. on the Radio-Nine Types of Light: TV on The Radio returns from their hiatus with a very relaxed album that showcases their strength as songwriters. The album is not as tense as Dear Science and doesn’t have the angst that characterized their past work.
1. Radiohead-King of Limbs: The greatest band on the planet surprised everyone by releasing this album out of the blue. No one saw it coming and a lot of people hated it upon release. But just like their best work it took time for me to get into it, but once I did, I loved every second of the album.
Song of the day will be from James Blake debut album, song is "The Wilhelm Scream"
