Atlas Sound "Terra Incognita"

Bradford Cox has been one of my favorite singer songwriter for a very long time. In fact his band Deerhunter was one of the first bands that really grabbed me at an emotional level with their distorted sound and hazy atmosphere. In addition to Deerhunter, Bradford Cox has a thriving solo career that rivals the output of his band. Under the pseudonym Atlas Sound, Bradford has released two albums including the excellent “Logos”. To my surprise it was announced that he will be releasing another solo album called “Parallax” this fall. Bradford Cox must be in some kind of a serious zone because he is releasing high quality material at an incredible rate.

“Terra Incognita” is the first single from “Parallax” and once again, Mr. Cox does not disappoint. The track is an acoustic piece that repeats some simple chords, however after the last verse the song blossoms with Bradford Cox singing some doo woop type background vocals. Towards the conclusion “Terra Incognita” is distorted and swallowed up by a droning sound, an effect that Deerhunter and Atlas Sound has perfected in many of their songs. “Terra Incognita” exemplifies the immense talent Bradford Cox possesses; he manages to string together melodies that go directly to your core and stick in your brain all day. I really do not know how he does this; I just hope he continues at this break neck pace for a while.

Song Of The Day is Atlas Sound “Terra Incognita”
