The War On Drugs "Baby Missiles"

The War on Drugs is a relatively new band that originated in Philadelphia. They have been through a few lineup changes, at one point they had singer/songwriter Kurt Vile in their roster, now he has went on to release a few solo albums; one actually dropped this year to some good reviews. Besides that I do not know much more about the band and I haven’t got the opportunity to listen to a full album by them. What I did get to listen to was their single titled “Baby Missiles”.

On “Baby Missiles”, the band does not shy away from wearing their influences on their sleeves. The single sounds like a Arcade Fire song in the way that the drummer sets the stage for the rest of the track. The lead singer delivers the lyrics and melody in a manner that resembles Win Butler. It makes sense that both bands are often compared to Bruce Springsteen.

“Baby Missiles” also has a nice harmonica solo in the middle of the song that sounds like something Bob Dylan will pull off in his early records. Even with all these familiar elements, this is still a good song that has great energy. I am looking forward  to listening to the full album when it comes out.

Song of The Day is "Baby Missiles"
