Queensbridge rap veteran Nas, has released the new single titled “Nasty”. The single quickly generated some buzz because the title suggests a return to his early form; back when he was still named Nasty Nas. He dropped the Nasty part of the name and became simply known as Nas and went on to release one of the most acclaimed hip-hop album called “Illmatic”. Since that time, his career has been a rollercoaster ride and he never was able to capture the magic that he had on his debut.
Fast forward to 2011 and Nas is bringing the “Nasty” back. The new single produced by his long time collaborator Salaam Remi has a throwback beat that sounds like something made in the early nineties. The beat however takes a back seat to Nas who spits some fire, putting together some impressive and dense verses. The lyrics are a bit abstract and they do showcase his lyrical prowess.
This return to form echoes the story of Raekwon, another New York rap veteran who has been on a tear since his return in 2009. Their careers have mirrored each other. Hopefully that will lead to Nas releasing an album on par with Raekown’s “Only Built for Cuban Linx 2”.
Song of the day will be "Nasty" by Nas.
