Music Attention Deficit

Over the last decade we have witnessed the internet blossom. It has become something that connects us all. People from anywhere can communicate with each other instantly. This instant communication makes a ton of new music readily available online; resulting in a lack of attention.
It begins with an artist or a band creating a buzz by posting their material online. Next thing we know, they are being talked about all over the blogosphere. The hype builds to the point that it becomes irritating, resulting in a perplexing backlash.  I am guilty of “hating” on some new artists simply because I get sick of hearing about them; before I even get the chance to listen to their work. The album leaks, people get tired of it instantly and they turn their attention to the latest sensation. The cycle resets and we go through the whole process again.

Even excellent albums are forgotten in a matter of weeks, sometimes after years of anticipation. It would be nice to sit on an album for a while, to really soak it in and understand its contents before moving on to the next one. I noticed that a lot of the albums that have grown to be personal favorites are those that require repeated listens which allowed all the hidden details to surface; as if each listen rewards me with a little more sonic pleasure.

The song of the day will be "Bros" by Panda Bear, and yeah this will test your attention.
