Thurston Moore "Benediction" Song Review

Thurston Moore over the past couple of decades has established himself as a very productive and involved artist. He is the guitarist for Sonic Youth. A band that has produced great music from the 80s and they are still going strong up to this day. Sonic Youth is known for the artsy sound that showcases their noise making ability. Moore plays a big part in that sound but he has produced solo albums and film soundtracks with varying degrees of success. The side projects served as an outlet away from the main band Sonic Youth and allowed him to further explore different sounds.

“Benediction” is the single that comes from his new solo album “Demolished Thoughts”. The song is quiet and meditative piece. The acoustic guitar occupies the majority of the sonic space. The song sounds very effortless; it is loose, relaxed and the melody slowly works its way into your head. I particularly like the string arrangement placed in the background, they balance the guitar parts very well and add on to the tranquil atmosphere. During the third verse a light drum beat kicks in to finish of the song on a strong note. This is a good song for a breezy summer listen and I look forward to the rest of the album.

7.5/10

Song of the Day Will Be "Benediction" by Thurston Moore.
